Signs of a dull blade
Ragged or torn grass tips, reduced cutting quality, and visible rounding at the blade edge are common signs. Cut quality can also be affected by deck buildup, blade installation, or mower-deck problems.
- Ragged grass tips
- Rounded or nicked edge
- Uneven cutting that needs further inspection
Balance matters after sharpening
Removing too much material from one side can leave a blade out of balance. Strong vibration should be investigated before mowing continues because blade damage is not the only possible cause.
When replacement is safer
A cracked, badly bent, severely worn, or heavily damaged blade may not be a good sharpening candidate. Bring the mower or the removed blades with the correct hardware when possible.
