When the mower will not crank
A no-crank complaint can come from a discharged battery, corroded connections, a starter problem, or a safety switch that is not being satisfied. Confirm the parking brake, blade control, seat switch, and battery condition before replacing parts.
- Battery condition and cable connections
- Brake, seat, and blade-engagement switches
- Starter and solenoid operation
When it cranks but will not start
An engine that turns over but does not start needs fuel, spark, air, and compression. Old gasoline and restricted carburetor passages are common after storage, but ignition and mechanical problems can produce similar symptoms.
- Fuel age and fuel flow
- Spark plug and ignition
- Air filter and visible intake restrictions
Deck and blade problems
Belts that come off, blades that will not engage, uneven cutting, and heavy vibration should be checked before mowing continues. Visible blade damage, worn pulleys, loose hardware, and belt-routing problems can all matter.
- Blade and belt condition
- Pulleys, idlers, and engagement parts
- Visible deck damage or buildup
