Runs only with the choke on
Needing choke after warm-up usually points to a mixture problem rather than a normal adjustment. Restricted carburetor passages, poor fuel flow, or an intake leak can make the engine run too lean.
- Fuel filter and lines
- Carburetor passages and diaphragms
- Intake connections
Primer and fuel-line problems
Primer bulbs and flexible fuel lines can harden, crack, or lose their seal. Visible air bubbles, fuel leaks, or a primer that does not refill are useful details to include with a repair request.
- Primer bulb condition
- Supply and return lines
- Tank filter and fuel cap
Starter and cutting-head concerns
A pull cord that will not retract may involve the rope, pulley, spring, or a mechanical problem that prevents the engine from turning. Bring the trimmer complete so the controls, shaft, guard, and head can be considered with the engine complaint.
